Drums

I first took an interest in drums when I was around fourteen years old.  I bought a drum set and began taking lessons.  This new found interest did not last long, and I eventually sold my set.  In the early nineties I once again took an interest in drums, but this time it was hand drums that caught my attention.  I became obsessed with hand percussions, often playing four or five hours a day.  My quest for the perfect hand drum also began.  After a long and unsuccessful search, I decided to make my own drum.  I used a solid trunk of Australian Pine and carved the drum with mallets and chisels.  To hollow out the drum I used an aborigine technique of drilling and burning.  This first drum took me about two years of off and on work to complete.

After completing my first one, I decided to continue making drums.  Over the years I developed my own techniques for drum construction, as well as some of my own designs.  During school I started a small business making and selling drums to offset some of my living expenses.  Today I have reduced my drum making to custom orders only.  Below are some photos of various drums I have made over the years.  If you are interested in a custom made drum, just send me an email and we can discuss designs, prices, etc..
